WFCA Step Up Tour Showcases First Three Member Businesses

The World Floor Covering Association’s (WFCA) Step Up Tour has completed its first three stops, highlighting member businesses whose leadership, innovation, and commitment to the industry exemplify the strength of independent flooring retailers.

The first three visits—to Sunshine Interiors in Lakeland, Florida; Jabara’s Home Services in Wichita, Kansas; and Carpet Exchange in Denver, Colorado—reflect the diversity of today’s flooring industry. Different in size, history, and business model, each company demonstrates a commitment to serving customers, supporting its community, investing in the future of the flooring profession, and sharing experiences that can benefit others.

Created to showcase outstanding WFCA member businesses, the Step Up Tour goes beyond the showroom, spending time with owners, employees, manufacturing partners, customers, and community organizations to better understand the leadership, culture, and business practices behind each company. Those insights are shared through feature stories, video, photography, podcasts, and digital content, creating a growing resource for flooring professionals across North America.

“The flooring industry has always been strongest when professionals are willing to share what they’ve learned,” said Scott Humphrey, Chief Executive Officer of the World Floor Covering Association. “The Step Up Tour gives us the opportunity to recognize businesses making a difference, celebrate the people behind their success, and share ideas that help strengthen our industry.”

Each of the first three businesses offers a different perspective on leadership.

Led by President Darren Harrison, Sunshine Interiors demonstrates how a clear sense of purpose shapes leadership, guides decision-making, and creates a culture rooted in service, trust, and meaningful community involvement. The company’s story shows how purpose can influence every aspect of a business.

Under the leadership of Jason Jabara, Jabara’s Home Services demonstrates how four generations of family leadership, enduring customer relationships, and a willingness to evolve have kept the company thriving for more than a century. Its story reminds us that while products and markets change, trust, service, and relationships remain timeless.

At Carpet Exchange, Bruce Odette demonstrates how disciplined leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to developing people can build a business where performance and culture grow together. His approach reflects the belief that long-term success is achieved by investing in both operational excellence and the people who make it possible.

While each company’s story is unique, they share another important characteristic: a commitment to staying engaged, investing in professional development, and supporting the flooring industry through active participation in WFCA programs and initiatives. The Step Up Tour reflects WFCA’s commitment to recognizing members who not only build outstanding businesses but also help strengthen the flooring profession.

“The most valuable part of every Step Up Tour visit isn’t simply telling a company’s story—it’s sharing ideas that can inspire another business,” said Freida Staten, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer for WFCA. “Every stop reminds us that our industry is filled with leaders willing to share their experiences so others can grow, innovate, and succeed.”

With additional visits planned through 2027, the Step Up Tour will continue sharing the leadership, insights, and experiences that inspire stronger businesses and a stronger flooring industry.
